Course description

Organisational Design & Development: Implementing the Basics

Explore the essentials of organisation design and development to compliment your existing knowledge of your organisation strategy, direction and structure.

Our three-day workshop is scaffolded with a resource pack that signposts wider learning opportunities in the disciplines of organisation design and organisation development. We explore the essentials to complement your existing knowledge of your organisation strategy, direction and structure. We dissect some of the theory and look at how that works in practice and will support the transfer to your context.

This course will take you through systems thinking and how it applies to your organisation, and how systems models underpin organisation design. You'll explore the difference between organisation design, organisation development, and change management, and where these different disciplines work together. They will also look at the different levels at which organisation design can take place, from whole-organisation level to individual team level, and the organisation structures that are often used. The phases of design work will then be explored, including transitioning to a new design and optimising it, alongside discussion on change and stakeholder management.

The programme expands on organisation development theories and diagnostic models to check the health your organisation. The role of data and the concept of self as an instrument of change is also covered.

The programme ends with you completing an action plan for your context.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This programme is designed for those senior people practitioners in HR and L&D or senior operational managers whose roles are evolving into the fields of organisation design and organisation development. This programme introduces the systematic approaches and some of the theoretical concepts used in both disciplines and sets the tone for the wider development needed to excel in these areas.

If you are currently working in organisation design or development but have had no formal development, this programme will also provide an insight into the development that recognised leaders in these fields have had. The programme also blends both disciplines and show how they complement each other in today’s changing world of work, workforce and the workplace.
