Prior study is not a prerequisite – you just need a passion for the subject matter!
A glance at the titles of the individual modules shows you just what this fantastic subject is about. It covers in some detail all of the various needs of children, including their physical needs such as the types of food that are best for them (and nutritional guidelines), the benefits of adequate rest and sleep, and common childhood illnesses . . . through to their psychological needs – love, security, positive reinforcement of behaviour – and education.
The materials go on to explore issues surrounding behaviour management, child abuse and the legal framework, and your roles and responsibilities as a care provider, counsellor or parent. It also discusses and informs on the complexities of the various agencies and legislative frameworks in place to protect children. There is even a module; “Support for Childminders” which details how to protect yourself and your family from allegations.
A reasonable level of literacy is required, but there are no entry restrictions.
You just need a keen interest in the subject, and will ideally have studied the subject or ancillary disciplines at a lower level if you want to progress quickly.
