Diploma in Company Direction

The Diploma in Company Direction is a unique opportunity move one step further toward the Chartered Director qualification and to test your skills as a director.

Once you have completed the Certificate in Company Direction courses and examination, you can attend the IoD’s Developing Board Performance programme, a three-day interactive course where you will act as a board member. You will challenge and use skills gained from your experience as a director in an applied and dynamic way, as a board facing a variety of challenges and crises.

The course is designed so that it encourages peer group support, challenge and stimulation, mirroring the real-world operation of a board.

The Diploma in Company Direction builds on the Certificate by:

Replicating the issues experienced by a ‘real’ organisation – diagnosing and overcoming the challenges regularly faced by the board
Giving you an opportunity to receive feedback on your own impact and performance as the board reviews and appraises its own impact and effectiveness
Making you apply your knowledge in constantly changing situations that evolve during the course

Upon completion of the programme you will be able to successfully tackle the examination and obtain the Diploma in Company Direction.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is aimed at directors who have completed the IoD’s Certificate in Company Direction (Chartered Director Stage 1) and wish to gain the IoD's Diploma in Company Direction(Chartered Director Stage 2).

Understand your board’s role; its dynamic, power, influence and conflicts
Understand important topics including: risk and crisis management; decision-making; mergers and acquisitions; and board performance
Understand relevant techniques and tools to improve personal skills and that of the board
Evaluate and improve the performance of their board, its committees and individual directors
